The famous Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen called Gjoa Haven 'the finest little harbor in the world' which is where it gets its Norse name from. It is the closest settlement to the recently discovered Sir John Franklin wrecks of HMS Terror and HMS Erebus hence the crowning jewel of the little museum, the recovered bell from the HMS Terror.
